A New Dawn in Winterfell
Our journey begins where season 7 left off - in the frosty lands of Winterfell. Jon Snow, now King in the North (and secretly Aegon Targaryen, but shh, we'll get to that later), is welcoming Daenerys Stormborn and her dragon children. The Northern lords, ever the welcoming bunch, are less than thrilled about the new arrivals. But Jon, being Jon, doesn't seem too bothered. He's got a war to win, after all.
Daenerys, in her infinite wisdom, decides to give the North a break and not demand their bent knee. Instead, she asks for their support in the great war against the White Walkers. Jon, ever the diplomat, agrees to bend the knee in return for Dany's help against the Night King. It's a tense moment, but Jon's speech about the real enemy - the White Walkers - seems to sway the lords. Phew!
Bran's Big Reveal
Meanwhile, our favorite Three-Eyed Raven, Bran Stark, is having a field day warging into ravens and spying on the Night King and his army. He sees the White Walkers creating more wights and, get this, the Night King marking a dragon with his ice blade. Yikes! Bran wargs back just in time to tell his sisters (and us) the bad news - the Night King has a dragon now.
Bran also drops a massive bombshell - he's not just Bran Stark anymore. He's the Three-Eyed Raven, the greenseer, the all-seeing. He can't control his greensight, and it's freaking him out. Sansa, being the awesome big sister she is, promises to help him figure it out.
Jon's Big Secret
Remember that little family tree we've all been obsessing over? Well, it's time to dust it off because Jon's got a secret. Samwell Tarly, our favorite maester, spills the beans to Bran - Jon is not Ned Stark's bastard. He's actually his nephew! Mind. Blown. Ned Stark was protecting Jon's true identity to keep him safe from Robert Baratheon, who wanted to kill all the Targaryen babies. And thus, the secret of Jon's true parentage - Aegon Targaryen, rightful heir to the Iron Throne - is revealed. Cue the fireworks!
The Lannisters are Back, Baby!
Across the Narrow Sea, Cersei Lannister is ruling over King's Landing with an iron fist. She's got a new lover (her brother Jaime, in case you forgot), a new baby on the way, and a new alliance with Euron Greyjoy. Cersei's plan? To let the White Walkers take out the Stark and Targaryen armies, then swoop in and take back what's hers. Classic Cersei.
Arya's Assassinating Adventures
Our favorite Faceless Assassin, Arya Stark, is back in Westeros and ready to kick some names and take some faces. She's got a list, and she's checking it twice. First up? Walder Frey. Arya, in a gloriously gruesome scene, poisons the entire Frey family and feeds them to each other. Yum. Then, she's off to King's Landing to cross off a few more names. Watch out, Lannisters!
The Wall is Falling... Literally
In the closing moments of "Eastwatch," we see the Night King leading his army towards the Wall. Tormund Giantsbane and Beric Dondarrion are defending Eastwatch-by-the-Sea, but it's not looking good. The Night King picks up a giant ice spear and hurls it at the Wall, creating a massive breach. Cue the existential crisis. The White Walkers pour through the gap, and the Night King rides his undead dragon through the smoldering hole. Game over, man! Game over!
