The only humans who call Queen Maud Land home are scientists living in research stations. They study everything from penguins to meteorites. But don't expect to bump into many neighbors; the population density is a whopping 0.0001 people per square kilometer. That's right, folks, you could have an entire ice shelf to yourself!

The Lost World: The Amazon Rainforest's Uncontacted Tribes

Deep within the heart of the Amazon rainforest lies a secret that's both fascinating and chilling - uncontacted tribes. These indigenous communities have had little to no contact with the outside world, making their way of life one of the most remote in the world.

Brazil's FUNAI (National Indian Foundation) estimates that there are around 100 uncontacted tribes living in the Amazon. They've managed to stay isolated thanks to their remote locations, often deep in the jungle or along unnavigable rivers. However, their isolation is under threat from deforestation and illegal logging, making their future uncertain.

The Roof of the World: Mount Everest's Death Zone

Now, let's climb to the most remote place on Earth's surface - the summit of Mount Everest. At 8,848.86 meters (29,031.7 feet), it's the highest peak in the world. But it's not the climb that makes the summit so remote; it's the Death Zone above 8,000 meters.

The Death Zone is aptly named. The air is so thin that climbers can only spend a few minutes at the summit before they must descend to safer altitudes. Despite these harsh conditions, around 5,000 people have summited Everest, making it the most climbed of the Seven Summits.

Giant tube worms, shrimp, and other exotic creatures call the trench home. In 2012, film director James Cameron became the first person to solo dive to the Challenger Deep in his submersible, the Deepsea Challenger.

The Cosmic Frontier: The Oort Cloud

Leaving Earth behind, we venture into the vast expanse of space to the most remote place in our solar system - the Oort Cloud. This theoretical cloud of icy planetesimals is believed to surround our solar system at a distance of between 200,000 and 200,000,000 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun.

To give you an idea of just how remote that is, one AU is roughly the distance from the Earth to the Sun, about 150 million kilometers (93 million miles). So, the Oort Cloud is about 3,000,000 to 30,000,000 times farther away from the Sun than Earth is. Comets that enter the inner solar system are thought to originate from the Oort Cloud.

Finally, we're leaving our own galaxy behind to explore the most remote place in the observable universe - the Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB). This is the oldest observable light in the universe, emitted around 380,000 years after the Big Bang.

The CMB is so remote that it's beyond the observable universe. This means that the light we detect today has been traveling through space for over 13.8 billion years. To put that into perspective, the universe itself is estimated to be around 13.8 billion years old. So, the CMB is truly as far back in time as we can see.
