The Early Days: Jesy's Childhood and Teenage Years
Before Jesy Nelson was wowing audiences with her incredible voice and sassy personality, she was just a girl from Romford, Essex, with big dreams. Born on June 14, 1991, Jesy grew up with her older sister, Polly, and her parents, John and Janice. She was always a bit of a tomboy, preferring to play football with the boys rather than dolls with the girls.
Jesy attended Jo Richardson Community School, where she was a part of the school's performing arts group. It was here that she began to develop her love for music and performing. She would often sing with her friends in the playground, and her teachers noticed her talent, encouraging her to audition for the school's musicals.
Little did they know, they were nurturing the future voice of one of the biggest girl groups in the world!
X Factor Audition and The Saturdays
In 2011, at the age of 19, Jesy Nelson decided to audition for the eighth series of The X Factor. She performed a rendition of Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" that left the judges, including Simon Cowell, in awe. However, she was eliminated in the bootcamp stage. But Jesy wasn't ready to give up on her dreams just yet.
After her X Factor journey ended, Jesy joined a girl group called Orion. The group was managed by Louis Walsh and even supported The Saturdays on their tour. Although the group never gained much traction, it was during this time that Jesy honed her skills as a performer and developed her unique stage presence.
The Birth of Little Mix
In 2011, Jesy Nelson auditioned for The X Factor once again, this time as part of a group. She joined forces with Perrie Edwards, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jade Thirlwall, and the rest, as they say, is history. Little Mix was born!
The group wowed the judges and the nation with their incredible harmonies and impressive vocals. They went on to win the competition, becoming the first group to ever win The X Factor. Their debut single, "Cannonball," was released in 2012, and the rest is history.
