A Brief History of Taking Back Sunday
Before we get into the nitty-gritty of their current status, let's take a quick trip down memory lane. Taking Back Sunday was formed in 1999 in Long Island, New York. The original lineup consisted of singer Adam Lazzara, guitarists John Nolan and Eddie Reyes, bassist Shaun Cooper, and drummer Mark O'Connell. Their debut album, Tell All Your Friends, dropped in 2002 and quickly became an emo classic, with hits like "Cute Without the 'E'" and "Bike Scene."
The Band's Ups and Downs
TBS has seen its fair share of lineup changes and internal struggles over the years. In 2003, Nolan and Reyes left the band, and they were replaced by guitarist Matt Rubano and keyboardist/guitarist Fred Mascherino. This lineup released the albums Where You Want to Be (2004) and Louder Now (2006), which brought us iconic tracks like "MakeDamnSure" and "My Blue Heaven."
However, in 2007, Lazzara and Cooper left the band, and Nolan and Reyes returned with a new vocalist, Adam Lazarra (yes, another Adam). This lineup released two albums, New Again (2009) and Happiness Is (2014), before Lazarra and Cooper rejoined the band in 2016. The reunited lineup released their latest album, Tidal Wave, in 2021.
So, Is Taking Back Sunday Still Together?
Now that we've caught up on the band's history, let's get to the main event: Is Taking Back Sunday still together?
Good news, TBS fans!
As of now, yes, Taking Back Sunday is still together. The current lineup consists of Lazzara, Nolan, Reyes, Cooper, and O'Connell – the band's original lineup, minus Mascherino. They've been touring and releasing new music together since their reunion in 2016.
In an interview with Alternative Press, Lazzara said, "We're all really happy with where we're at as people and as a band. We're just taking it one day at a time and trying to enjoy the ride." So, it seems like the band is in a good place and has no plans to split up anytime soon.
What's Next for Taking Back Sunday?
With their latest album, Tidal Wave, released in 2021, fans are eager to know what's next for TBS. In the same Alternative Press interview, Nolan hinted at new music, saying, "We've been writing a lot, and we have a bunch of new songs that we're really excited about. We're just trying to figure out the best way to put them out."
