Frankenstein: A Monster's Perspective

Hello there, bookworms and literature lovers! Today, we're diving deep into Mary Shelley's classic novel, Frankenstein, but with a twist. We're going to explore this tale through the eyes of the monster himself. So, grab your pitchforks and let's get started! Guys, explore more in Guides And Explainers and frankenstein through the eyes of the monster.

The Creature's Birth and Initial Innocence

Born into a world that would ultimately shun and fear him, the creature's first experiences are anything but welcoming. Victor Frankenstein, his creator, brings him to life and then promptly abandons him, leaving the creature to fend for himself in the cold, unforgiving world. But our monster isn't born evil; he's a blank slate, eager to learn and understand the world around him.

The creature stumbles upon a family, the De Lacey family, and observes them from afar, learning about humanity through their interactions. He yearns for companionship and understanding, but his first attempt at contact ends in tragedy. The family flees in terror at the sight of him, leaving the creature heartbroken and alone. This is where our monster's journey takes a dark turn.

The Monster's Education and Growing Resentment

Determined to understand why he's feared and rejected, the creature seeks out education. He stumbles upon a chest of books in a deserted hut and begins to read, teaching himself about the world and the very society that shuns him. As he learns, his resentment grows. He realizes that his creator has not only abandoned him but also cursed him with a hideous appearance that inspires only fear and loathing.

The creature's education also introduces him to the concept of love and companionship, making his isolation all the more painful. He becomes obsessed with the idea of having a mate, someone who can understand and accept him. This leads him to make a chilling request of his creator: build me a companion.

The Monster's Demand and Victor's Refusal

The creature confronts Victor Frankenstein, demanding that he create a female monster to keep him company. Victor, however, refuses, fearing the consequences of creating another sentient being like his first creation. The creature's rage boils over, and he vows revenge, setting the stage for the novel's tragic climax.

The Monster's Perspective on the Tragic Ending

The creature's tale ends in tragedy, with Victor's death and the burning of the creature's mate before she can even come to life. The creature, heartbroken and alone, decides to end his own life, putting an end to his miserable existence. But before he does, he has a final, poignant reflection: I was benevolent and good; misery made me a fiend.

Through the monster's eyes, we see Frankenstein not just as a horror story, but as a cautionary tale about the dangers of playing God and the consequences of our actions. The creature, despite his monstrous appearance, is a victim, a being created and then abandoned, forced to navigate a world that fears and rejects him.

So, the next time you pick up Frankenstein, remember to look beyond the monster's hideous exterior. You might just find a tragic, complex character who's far more human than you think.
